An epic journey through ancient trails, majestic canyons, and the hidden citadel of the Incas


🏞️ Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capuliyoc – Playa Rosalina

Distance: 19 km | Duration: ~7 hours
Altitude: From 2,850 m / 9,350 ft to 1,550 m / 5,085 ft

We’ll pick you up early (around 5:00 a.m.) from your hotel and travel by bus for about 4.5 hours to the village of Cachora, where we’ll rest for 40 minutes (optional breakfast not included). Here, we organize the equipment and pack animals (horses or mules).

The hike begins with scenic views of snow-capped peaks and rich vegetation as we reach Capuliyoc (2,915 m / 9,564 ft) for lunch. Afterward, we continue for 30 minutes to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the Apurímac Canyon and, in the distance, the mystical Choquequirao. We then descend to Playa Rosalina, our first campsite.


🏞️ Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa – Choquequirao

Distance: 15 km | Duration: ~7 hours
Altitude: Up to 2,990 m / 9,514 ft

After breakfast, we begin a steep climb to Santa Rosa where we’ll enjoy lunch and panoramic views of the Apurímac Valley. We continue ascending through lush landscapes until we reach the campsite near the Choquequirao complex, where we rest before the big exploration day.


🏛️ Day 3: Full Day at Choquequirao – Camp in Marampata

Distance: 5 km | Duration: ~2 hours
Altitude: Camp at 2,800 m / 9,240 ft

This is a magical day dedicated to exploring Choquequirao, known as the “sacred sister of Machu Picchu”. With your guide, you’ll visit the main plazas, terraces, ritual sites, and hidden corners of this magnificent Inca citadel. After lunch with panoramic views, we head to the nearby village of Marampata for the night—keep an eye out for Andean condors at sunset!


🏞️ Day 4: Marampata – Playa Rosalina – Chiquisca

Distance: 10 km | Duration: ~5 hours
Altitude: Camp at 1,800 m / 5,940 ft

After breakfast, we descend back through the Apurímac canyon, stopping for lunch at Playa Rosalina. We then ascend for about 2 hours to reach the Chiquisca camp, surrounded by natural beauty and tranquility.


🏞️ Day 5: Chiquisca – Capuliyoc – Cachora – Cusco

Distance: 7 km | Duration: ~5–6 hours

We begin with a steady ascent of 3–4 hours to Capuliyoc, then continue for 2 more hours until we reach the trailhead in Cachora. After a well-deserved lunch, we take the private transport back to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.

Choquequirao is located in the western part of the Cusco region, within the Vilcabamba mountain range. It lies northwest of the city of Cusco, at an average altitude of 3,500 meters (11,482 feet). The park spans over 522,878 hectares and is one of the most significant Inca archaeological sites in Peru.

There are several routes to reach the trekking area and the archaeological site:

  1. Via Quillabamba: Paved road Cusco – Quillabamba, with a detour at Chaullay toward Vilcabamba.

  2. Via Cachora (most popular): Paved road Cusco – Abancay, through Cachora and Huanipaca. From here, the trek begins on foot into the Apurímac canyon toward Choquequirao.

  3. Via Mollepata: Paved road Cusco – Abancay through Mollepata, leading to trails near the Vilcabamba mountain range.

  4. Via Santa Teresa: By train to Machu Picchu and road access over the Carrilluchayoc bridge to Santa Teresa.
